bullet Federal Grants and Financial Aid

The Student Guide - the most comprehensive resource on student financial aid from the U.S. Department of Education. Grants, loans, and work-study are the three major forms of student financial aid available through the Department's Student Financial Assistance office. Updated each award year, The Student Guide tells you about the programs and how to apply for them.

Federal Pell Grant - A Federal Pell Grant, unlike a loan, does not have to be repaid. Generally, Pell Grants are awarded only to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor's or professional degree. (A professional degree is usually earned after earning a bachelor's degree in a field such as medicine, law, or dentistry.)  In some cases, you might receive a Pell Grant for attending a postbaccalaureate teacher
certificate program.

If you don't already have a U.S. Department of Education Personal Identification Number (PIN), apply for one at this web site.  With your PIN's,you and your parent(s) can electronically sign the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  The PIN simplifies the application process and allows  you to get your results faster.

        Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants
(FSEOG) - An FSEOG is for undergraduates with exceptional financial need - that is, students with the lowest EFCs - and gives priority to students who receiveFederal Pell Grants. An FSEOG doesn't have to be paid back.

Federal Family Education Loan Program - Direct and FFEL Stafford Loans are the Department's major form of self-help aid. Direct Stafford Loans are available through the William D. Ford Federal DirectLoan (Direct Loan) Program and FFEL Stafford Loans are available through the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program. The terms
and conditions of a Direct Stafford or a FFEL Stafford aresimilar. The major differences between the two are the source of the loan funds, some aspects of the application process, and the available repayment plans. Under the Direct Loan Program, the funds for your loan are lent to you directly by the U.S. government. Under the FFEL Program, the funds for your loan are lent to you from a bank, credit union, or other lender that participates in the FFEL Program.

Plus Loans - These are loans made to parents with no adversecredit history.  As is true for Stafford Loans, there are FFEL PLUS Loans and Direct PLUS Loans. PLUS Loans are unsubsidized.
